Job summary

Baptist Health Lexington is seeking an Anesthesia Technician in the Operating Room to support perioperative services. You will assess patient needs preoperatively, coordinate with anesthesiologists, SPD, and vendors, and help manage equipment and supplies for the department.

The role emphasizes teamwork, leadership, and strong customer relations in a fast-paced surgical environment, with responsibilities including staff scheduling and ensuring a positive healing setting.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent is required.
• BLS certification is required or must be obtained within 30 days of hire.
• Previous experience as an Anesthesia Technician is preferred but not required.

Responsibilities

• Preoperatively assess patient needs (e.g., resistant organisms, latex allergy, age-related factors) and communicate with surgical services.
• Collaborate with anesthesiologists, vendors, and SPD to identify equipment and supply needs.
• Assist in capital budget processes and coordinate OR schedule changes with the Chief Anesthesiologist/designee.
• Coordinate special procedures with SPD and ensure proper handling of anesthesia equipment.
• Instruct staff on proper usage of anesthesia equipment and assist with staffing/scheduling.
• Demonstrate leadership and maintain positive patient relations and a healing environment.

Baptist Health Lexington Surgical Services Department encompasses several key areas: the Pre-Op Department, 20 operating rooms with a business office staff responsible for scheduling, a Postoperative Care Unit, an Endoscopy Department with dedicated pre- and post-op areas, and a Sterile Processing Department.

Job Description:

Description Anesthesia Technician Operating Room:

• Assesses patient specific needs preoperatively i.e., resistant organisms, latex allergy, age specific and communicates with the surgical services team members regarding relevant patient and procedure data.
• Communication and Teamwork.
• Meets with anesthesiologists to identify needs of the department.
• Meets with vendors to identify equipment /supplies needed for the department.
• Assists in capital budget process.
• Communicates with the Sterile Processing Department (SPD) regarding necessary changes, supplies/instrumentation needs.
• Communicates conflicts in the OR schedule to the Chief Anesthesiologist/designee.
• Coordinates special procedures with SPD.
• Instructs staff regarding proper usage of and handling of anesthesia equipment.
• Assists with staff Scheduling/coordinates coverage.
• Demonstration of leadership.
• Customer relations and healing environment.
• Ensures positive customer relations through caring behaviors.
• Uses sensitivity in managing difficult or emotional situations.
• Previous experience as an Anesthesia Technician., preferred not required.

Requirements Anesthesia Technician Operating Room:

• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification is required. If not already certified, applicants must obtain BLS within 30 days of their hire date.
• High School Diploma or Equivalent.
