Job summary

Baptist Health Lexington is seeking an Anesthesia Technician for the Operating Room. The role is full-time on first shift and supports the Surgical Services team across Pre-Op, OR, Endoscopy, and Sterile Processing departments.

The position emphasizes patient data coordination, equipment handling, and collaboration with anesthesiologists and SPD to ensure safe, efficient surgical workflows. Prior OR tech experience is preferred but not required.

Qualifications

• BLS certification required or obtained within 30 days of hire.
• High School Diploma or Equivalent required.

Responsibilities

• Assess patient needs preoperatively and relay data to the surgical services team.
• Demonstrate effective communication and teamwork in the OR environment.
• Meet with anesthesiologists to identify department needs and coordinate with vendors for equipment.
• Assist in capital budgeting processes and coordinate with Sterile Processing for supplies and instrumentation.
• Communicate OR scheduling conflicts to the Chief Anesthesiologist/designee and coordinate special procedures with SPD.
• Instruct staff on proper use and handling of anesthesia equipment and support staff scheduling.
• Demonstrate leadership and contribute to a positive patient-focused environment.
• Support patient relations and maintain a healing environment with sensitivity.

Baptist Health Lexington Surgical Services Department encompasses several key areas: the Pre-Op Department, 20 operating rooms with a business office staff responsible for scheduling, a Postoperative Care Unit, an Endoscopy Department with dedicated pre- and post-op areas, and a Sterile Processing Department.

Description Anesthesia Technician Operating Room:

• Assesses patient specific needs preoperatively i.e., resistant organisms, latex allergy, age specific and communicates with the surgical services team members regarding relevant patient and procedure data.
• Communication and Teamwork.
• Meets with anesthesiologists to identify needs of the department.
• Meets with vendors to identify equipment /supplies needed for the department.
• Assists in capital budget process. * Communicates with the Sterile Processing Department (SPD) regarding necessary changes, supplies/instrumentation needs.
• Communicates conflicts in the OR schedule to the Chief Anesthesiologist/designee.
• Coordinates special procedures with SPD. * Instructs staff regarding proper usage of and handling of anesthesia equipment.
• Assists with staff Scheduling/coordinates coverage.
• Demonstration of leadership.
• Customer relations and healing environment.
• Ensures positive customer relations through caring behaviors.
• Uses sensitivity in managing difficult or emotional situations.
• Previous experience as an Anesthesia Technician., preferred not required.

Requirements Anesthesia Technician Operating Room:

• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification is required. If not already certified, applicants must obtain BLS within 30 days of their hire date.
• High School Diploma or Equivalent.
