Job summary

CommonSpirit Health is seeking a senior level Anesthesia/Pain Coder with 3+ years of recent experience to review documentation, assign CPT/ASA codes, and ensure compliant billing. The role collaborates with clinic supervisors and the Revenue Management team to resolve coding issues according to payer rules.

Remote work is possible for candidates in allowed states, including CO. The ideal candidate has CPC (AAPC) and CANPC certifications within 1 year of hire, strong EHR proficiency, and

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or GED required.
  • Associate degree or equivalent work experience preferred.
  • Minimum 3 years of recent experience in anesthesia and pain coding.
  • Knowledge of anesthesia coding and elements for anesthesia claims (time units, modifiers).
  • Familiar with Medicare billing rules and guidelines; knowledge of NCCI, ICD-10-CM, CPT and modifiers.
  • Strong medical terminology, anatomy & physiology knowledge.
  • Experience with EHR and healthcare applications required.
  • Epic experience required.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint.
  • Excellent interpersonal, organizational and communication skills.
  • CPC certification required upon hire (AAPC).
  • CANPC certification required within 1 year of hire.

Responsibilities

  • Review documentation to assign CPT/ASA codes for anesthesia and pain services.
  • Collaborate with clinic supervisors/providers to resolve coding issues per payer rules.
  • Work with Revenue Management to address coding concerns and ensure accurate billing.

This is a senior level professional fee coding position with at least three (3) or more years of recent experience in anesthesia and pain coding. Anesthesia/Pain Coder staff key duties include reviewing documentation to assign appropriate CPT/ASA codes using the CPT-4/ASA manual and established criteria. Anesthesia/Pain Coder will work with clinic supervisors and/or providers to resolve coding issues and questions, following applicable payer rules and guidelines. This individual will also work with members of the Revenue Management team to address coding issues and concerns.

Along with CO, KS and NM, this position is open to remote/out of state candidates residing in only these states:

Job Requirements

  • High School Diploma/G.E.D. required
  • Associate degree or equivalent work experience in lieu of degree, preferred
  • A minimum of 3 years of recent experience in anesthesia and pain coding.
  • Knowledge of anesthesia coding and elements related to anesthesia claims, such as units of time and anesthesia modifiers.
  • Understand rules and regulations governing Medicare billing of anesthesia and pain services. Knowledge of NCCI, ICD-10-CM, CPT, and modifiers pertaining to anesthesia and pain services.
  • Demonstrate knowledge of medical terminology and anatomy and physiology
  • Experience with the electronic health record (EHR) and health care applications required.
  • Epic experience required.
  • Demonstrate advanced computer skills, including Microsoft Office applications to include Word, Excel, PowerPoint.
  • Demonstrate excellent interpersonal, organizational and communication skills.
  • CPC Required upon hire, Source: AAPC
  • Certified Anesthesia Pain Management Coder (CANPC) certification required to obtain within 1 year of hire.

Physical Requirement - Sedentary work - prolonged periods of sitting and exert up to 10 lbs. force occasionally
