Job summary

Life Fitness / Hammer Strength invites applications for the Android Software Engineering Intern program in the Chicagoland area. The internship emphasizes hands-on Android software work on embedded hardware for next-generation fitness equipment, with mentorship and cross-functional collaboration.

You will design, develop, and test Android components, participate in reviews, and help document architecture and testing processes. The 12-week case study culminates with senior leader presentations.

Qualifications

• Currently enrolled in a full-time bachelor's or master's degree program with an expected graduation date in 2028 or 2029.
• Pursuing a degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Computer Engineering, or a related technical discipline.
• Strong academic standing, GPA 3.5+ preferred.
• Fundamental understanding of object-oriented programming concepts and software design principles.
• Basic knowledge of Android development using Java and/or Kotlin; Java can substitute for Android experience.
• Familiarity with Linux-based operating environments.
• Demonstrated initiative and strong communication and problem-solving skills.
• Ability to adapt to changing priorities in a fast-paced environment.
• Hybrid internship in the Chicagoland area.

Responsibilities

• Assist in developing Android software components and new features.
• Support integration, configuration, and testing on embedded hardware platforms.
• Participate in code reviews, debugging sessions, and software validation activities.
• Contribute to documentation of software architecture, implementation details, and testing procedures.
• Assist in diagnosing and resolving software defects related to performance, connectivity, stability, and user interaction.
• Support continuous improvement of development processes, tools, and best practices.
• Collaborate with QA teams to verify functionality and quality.
• Contribute to a cross-functional 12-week case study project and present to senior leaders.
