Life Fitness / Hammer Strength is offering an Embedded Software Engineering Intern program designed to provide hands-on experience in development, testing, and maintenance of software powering fitness experiences for customers worldwide.

Interns participate in day-to-day embedded software work, code reviews, and collaboration on a 12-week cross-functional case study presented to senior leaders. The role is hybrid and local to Chicagoland, with a Rosemont, IL base wage range discussed.

Formación

• Enrolled in a full-time bachelor’s degree in CS/CE/SE or related field with 2028 or 2029 graduation.
• GPA 3.5+ preferred.
• Interest in embedded systems, firmware, or related engineering disciplines.

Responsabilidades

• Participate in day-to-day embedded software development activities within the engineering organization.
• Contribute to code reviews and software design discussions.
• Implement software enhancements, modifications, and bug fixes based on project requirements.

• Support the documentation of high-level software architecture and major system functions.

About the Role

The Life Fitness / Hammer Strength Internship Program 2027 is designed to provide meaningful, hands-on experience that supports both professional development and business impact. Successful interns will be assigned challenging projects aligned with their academic background and will receive ongoing mentorship and guidance from experienced professionals. As a member of our Embedded Software Engineering team, you will contribute to the development, testing, and maintenance of software that supports innovative fitness experiences for customers around the globe.

As Our Embedded Software Engineering Intern, You Will

• Participate in day-to-day embedded software development activities within the engineering organization.
• Contribute to code reviews and software design discussions with members of the development team.
• Implement software enhancements, modifications, and bug fixes based on project requirements and development priorities.
• Complete development testing to validate software functionality and performance.
• Conduct software integration testing and support troubleshooting efforts.
• Assist in the software build, deployment, and release management processes.
• Support the documentation of high-level software architecture and major system functions.
• Contribute to a business-critical project that delivers measurable value to the organization.
• Perform day-to-day duties and responsibilities within the embedded software engineering function.
• Collaborate with fellow interns on a 12-week cross-functional case study project and present recommendations to senior leaders, stakeholders, and managers.
• Attend and actively participate in team meetings, project reviews, and technical discussions.

What Life Fitness / Hammer Strength is looking for in our Embedded Software Engineering Intern:

• Must be local to the Chicagoland area and available to participate in the hybrid internship program.
• Currently enrolled in a full-time bachelor's degree program in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Software Engineering, or a related field, with an expected graduation date in 2028 or 2029.
• Strong academic standing preferred, with a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.5.
• Demonstrated initiative, positive attitude, and eagerness to learn.
• Excellent organizational and time management skills.
• Professional written and verbal communication skills.
• Strong analytical, critical thinking, and problem-solving abilities.
• Ability to adapt to changing priorities and thrive in a fast-paced environment.
• Strong collaboration and interpersonal skills.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Excel, Word, and PowerPoint.
• Interest in embedded systems, software development, firmware, testing, or related engineering disciplines.
• Experience with programming, software development projects, embedded systems, or coursework is preferred.

At Life Fitness / Hammer Strength, we believe in taking care of our team with a comprehensive total rewards package that includes competitive pay and a range of valuable benefits. The base wage range for this position, intended for U.S. applicants, is $24.00 - $27.00 per hour and includes eligibility for overtime. The actual base pay will vary based on applicant’s education, experience, skills, and abilities. The range reflected is based on a primary work location of Rosemont, IL and the actual salary may vary for applicants in a different geographic location.

Life Fitness / Hammer Strength provides a valuable and enriching experience for interns. Depending on the length and timing of their internship, interns may qualify for paid holidays during their assignment. They are also eligible for paid sick leave as outlined by state and local laws.
