Qualifications

What You’ll Do

  • Respond to fire, rescue, and medical emergencies with professionalism and urgency.
  • Deliver high-quality pre-hospital care as an EMT or Paramedic, making a real difference in critical moments.
  • Operate and maintain firefighting apparatus, equipment, and facilities.
  • Participate in ongoing training, drills, and community outreach.
  • Uphold the highest standards of safety, teamwork, and public service.

What We’re Looking For

  • Certification: Iowa or National Firefighter I (Firefighter II preferred), Hazardous Materials Operations, and Iowa EMT-Basic or Paramedic certification.
  • Experience: Lateral entry available for those with 2–3 years of full-time experience in a comparable agency.
  • Requirements: Valid Iowa driver’s license; age 18–64; all required certifications submitted with application.
  • Physical Readiness: Completion of a current physical agility evaluation and written exam through the Central Iowa Fire and EMS Testing Consortium.
  • Character: Integrity, reliability, and a strong desire to serve.
Must submit copies of all required certifications with your application.

Successful completion of post-offer criminal background screening, drug test, and physical required for all positions
