Chalk is hiring an Analytics Engineer to own the data layer that powers decision-making across Chalk. You'll own pipelines, data models, and analytics that make every step of that path trustworthy.

This hands-on role sits at the intersection of data engineering and analytics. Build pipelines, design models for customer, usage, and billing data, and turn back-office processes into automated, auditable systems. This role is full-time and on-site in San Francisco.

Qualifications

• 4+ years of experience in analytics engineering or data engineering.
• Experience building data models for billing, usage, or financial reporting.
• Strong Python skills and production pipeline experience.
• Expert-level SQL and BigQuery experience.
• Experience with dbt and BI/notebook tools.
• Strong data intuition and ability to explain numbers clearly.

Responsibilities

• Own Chalk’s core data layer and define trusted models.
• Build and maintain reliable pipelines feeding warehouse.
• Transform raw data into clean, usable datasets for reporting.
• Define consistent metrics across usage, revenue, and product.
• Improve data quality with testing and monitoring.
• Collaborate with Finance, Product, Engineering, Sales, and Ops.
• Develop self-service datasets for teams to answer questions.
• Improve analytics infrastructure reliability and performance.
• Establish best practices for data modeling, governance, and access.
• Identify gaps in the data stack and shape the roadmap.
