Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required.
• 1 year of appropriate college lab studies, 1 year of college mathematics (algebra, geometry, trigonometry or calculus), AND 2 years of laboratory experience OR 4 years experience in a food or pharmaceutical manufacturing environment.
• OR a Science related Associate Degree with at least 1 year of appropriate college lab studies and 1 year of college mathematics, plus 1 year of related laboratory experience OR 2 years experience in a food or pharmaceutical manufacturing environment.

Responsibilities

• Test necessary raw ingredients, in-process, and finished product per quality procedures and ensure specifications and quality guidelines are met.
• Maintain good manufacturing practices and good laboratory practices and comply with safety guidelines.
• Provide timely feedback to the chemist, lead chemist, and supervisor regarding status of area of responsibility.
• Analytical testing on raw ingredients, in-process and finished product, and plant utilities; test for release of product to manufacturing for further processing.
• Obtain and test environmental samples for compliance with Lab Methods Manual.
• Maintain training documents and drive training.
• Identify and solve immediate problems with some assistance from supervision and other chemists.
• Initiate troubleshooting for minor testing problems.
• Recognize and report method procedure problems and out-of-specification conditions; perform Chemist I functions.
• Identify out-of-specification conditions and initiate investigations into quality concerns.
