Job summary

Antheia is seeking a senior Analytical Chemist to join the Analytical Development group in the United States. You will work closely with biology and fermentation teams to develop, implement and support analytical solutions that guide metabolic engineering and scale-up processes.

You will refine methods across UPLC-UV, LC-MS, and GC-MS, train junior staff, and help manage workflow to keep pace with fast-paced startup objectives.

Qualifications

  • B.S. with 10+ years of experience or Ph.D. with 2+ years of experience in Analytical Chemistry or related field.
  • Experience with UPLC/UV, LC/MS/MS and GC/MS on fermentation-derived matrices required.
  • Proven track record of successful method development and qualification.
  • Theoretical knowledge of diverse analytical techniques.
  • Motivation and ability to solve complex analytical problems and build effective processes in a startup environment.
  • Experience managing direct reports with proven ability to delegate tasks, motivate staff, and make balanced operational decisions under pressure
  • Experience of collaborative work across multiple teams, building trust, fulfilling requests, giving constructive feedback, resolve conflicts and meeting timelines.
  • Experience working with Agilent software.
  • Experience with Agilent Bravo liquid handling automation and Agilent RapidFire is a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Perform analytical method development and optimization for quantification of small molecules using UPLC-UV, LC-MS and GC-MS instruments from sample preparation to data analysis and interpretation
  • Collaborate with scientists in biology and fermentation to understand analytical needs, deliver feedback on feasibility, timelines, and resource requirements of their requests, and deliver maximum value by developing appropriate method and process in house or outsourcing to external laboratories.
  • Manage, coach, and mentor a small team of Analytical Chemists, direct daily work and task, conduct performance evaluations, set goals, and provide constructive feedback.
  • Develop and implement processes to quickly and unambiguously address issues with unexpected analytical results, timely troubleshoot and resolve analytical method related errors and give feedback to biology and fermentation teams.
  • Be a subject matter expert for all routine in-house assays, train and guide junior staff in execution of those assays to defined specs in a timely manner.
  • Prioritize work of junior staff between routine analytical operation and method development and optimization activities to minimize sample backlog and achieve development goals, give feedback to senior management if there are resource constraints and collaborate on finding solutions.
  • Perform maintenance and troubleshoot common instrumentation failures and errors.
  • Prepare samples for routine analysis including instrument setup and data analysis
  • Prepare technical reports/SOPs and clearly communicate scientific findings.
  • Adhere to safe laboratory practices.
  • Perform other duties as assigned
