Job summary

Actalent is seeking an Analytical Development Chemist to join its Verona, WI team. You will support new client projects through analytical testing, method development, and method transfer activities in a GMP-regulated laboratory.

The role focuses on raw materials and finished products, including impurity testing, dissolution testing, and GC analyses, with opportunities to grow technical writing skills in a collaborative environment.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in chemistry, biochemistry, biology, or a related life science field.
  • 2–5 years of experience with HPLC instrumentation, including routine operation and data interpretation.
  • 2–5 years of experience with dissolution testing in a laboratory environment.
  • 2–5 years of experience with GC instrumentation.
  • 2–5 years of experience working under GMP regulations in a quality control or similar laboratory setting.
  • Hands-on experience with wet chemistry techniques, including titration.

Responsibilities

  • Perform analytical testing on raw materials and finished products to support new client projects and ongoing production activities.
  • Operate and maintain HPLC systems as a primary analytical tool for method execution and data generation.
  • Run dissolution testing and interpret results in accordance with established methods and quality standards.
  • Perform GC testing as needed, particularly for finished product analyses that require gas chromatography.
  • Execute basic laboratory techniques, including pipetting, weighing samples, assessing appearance, measuring water content, and evaluating particle size.
  • Conduct impurity testing and contribute to understanding impurity profiles and related analytical requirements.
  • Participate in analytical development activities, including method development, method verification, method transfer, and method validation.
  • Support high-level chemists and scientists on complex projects by performing assigned analytical tasks and providing accurate data.
  • Train on and perform raw material testing using titrators and other wet chemistry techniques under GMP conditions.
  • Document all laboratory work clearly and accurately in accordance with GMP and quality control requirements.
  • Collaborate with a small team of chemists, sharing workload and contributing to a team-focused environment.
  • Adapt to an open-ended workflow by proactively identifying and prioritizing work rather than waiting for directed assignments.
  • Troubleshoot issues during method development or testing and maintain a positive, solutions-focused attitude when tests fail or require rework.
  • Follow all laboratory safety procedures and quality control standards while working in a regulated environment.
