Job summary

Merck seeks a summer intern to join the High-Throughput Purification laboratory in South San Francisco, CA. The internship runs up to 12 weeks and develops analytical, purification, and data science methods for the early pipeline.

The intern will purify/analyze small molecules with HPLC, apply ML tools to speed workflows, and present results in oral and written formats. Applicants must be enrolled in a relevant degree program and available to work full-time from May or June 2027.

Qualifications

• Currently enrolled in a B.S., M.S., or Ph.D. program in Chemistry, Analytical Chemistry, Computational Chemistry, Chemical/Biomedical Engineering, Data Science, Pharmaceutical Science, or related discipline.
• Available to work full-time for 10–12 consecutive weeks starting May or June 2027.
• Must have completed at least two years of study by June 2027.
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills; attention to detail; ability to work independently in a fast-paced, cross-functional environment.
• Willingness to learn new techniques and contribute to AI/ML workflows.
