Job summary

The Analytical Chemist at Materion will perform analytical testing of in-house products using ICP-OES, ICP-MS and AAS, and provide technical support to the lab team to meet ISO 17025 requirements.

You will work with the Senior Analytical Chemist to qualify, develop, validate, and improve methods and instruments, contribute to quality and safety, and help train staff while maintaining accurate data in LIMS and SAP.

Qualifications

  • STEM degree preferred; high school diploma with 7–10 years analytical lab experience required.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Sound decision-making and ability to act with minimal supervision.
  • Ability to perform intermediate mathematical calculations.
  • Basic understanding of ASTM standards and ISO 17025 accreditation requirements.
  • Proficiency in Excel functions, LIMS (daily operations), and standard office software.
  • Export eligibility for ITAR/EAR; U.S. citizenship or equivalent.

Responsibilities

  • Operate, calibrate, maintain, and troubleshoot analytical instruments (ICP-OES, ICP-MS, AAS).
  • Develop and improve methods and lab practices with Senior Analytical Chemist to generate high-quality results.
  • Provide equipment/method support; install and maintain laboratory methods.
  • Assist qualification of new instruments and implementation of new methods.
  • Write and review SOPs and work instructions.
  • Train lab personnel on equipment and systems.
  • Use computers and systems (LIMS, SAP) for data entry.
  • Communicate with management and peers about workflow and improvements.
  • Follow clean-up, housekeeping, safety rules; ensure quality compliance.
  • Suggest quality and safety improvements.
