Job Purpose and Reporting Structure

The Lab Analyst I performs sample preparation, analytical testing, and data management to support Materion's customer requirements and ISO 17025 management system. The Lab Analyst I reports to the Senior Analytical Chemist or Analytical Lab Supervisor, with dotted line responsibility to the department lead.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Work with Lab Analyst II, Sr Lab Analyst, and the department lead to receive training; use QMS software to access and acknowledge training documents and work instructions; provide basic/intermediate training to other lab personnel on analytical methods when required.
  • Comply with all procedures and good laboratory practices.
  • Follow standard procedures for sample preparation prior to instrumental analysis; this includes rolling and cutting equipment, accurate weighing of samples, hot plate acid digestion, accurate dilutions, and other common laboratory processes; attention to detail is a key requirement.
  • Perform testing and data recording for provided samples using techniques such as ICP-OES, Metallography, GDMS, Tensile Testing, IGA (LECO), Tap Density, Hardness Testing, SEM/EDX (and Image Analysis).
  • Perform basic cleaning and maintenance of equipment; maintain a safe, clean work environment, including handling and movement of bulk acids.
  • Participate in lab projects, including process improvement and safety projects.
  • Be proficient in advanced Excel functions, LIMS (including daily operations functions), SAP, and other standard office software.
Qualifications

Education and Experience

Preference given to candidates with a two- or four-year degree (preferably in a STEM field). A high school diploma, technical school, or GED is required at a minimum, coupled with 2 or more years of relevant analytical experience.

Excellent spoken and written English is required.

Reasoning Ability

Physical Demands

Requires regular sitting, use of hands for manual tasks, occasional lifting and/or moving up to 40 pounds, and standing or walking as needed. Close vision and good manual dexterity are required for precise tasks.

Work Environment

Occasional exposure to low concentrations of fumes or airborne particles and toxic or caustic chemicals; noise level usually low; use of PPE required.

Pay Range

$27.18-$33.56 per hour (actual base salary may vary based on factors such as skill, experience, geography).

Export Compliance

Selection contingent on export compliance eligibility under ITAR and EAR regulations. Candidate must be a U.S. citizen, national, lawful permanent resident, asylum or refugee, or otherwise eligible for access to U.S. controlled technology. Any offer requires export license approval.
