Job summary

Materion is seeking a Chemical Analyst to provide technical leadership in the laboratory and support production and quality system metrics. In this role you will master current chemistry sample preparation and analysis using established laboratory equipment and procedures.

You will refine laboratory methods, contribute to method development for analytical instruments, and assist with calibration systems while preparing for aerospace audits and continuous improvement of quality documentation.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree or higher in chemistry, chemical engineering or natural science.
  • 1–2 years of analytical laboratory experience is preferred.
  • Experience with method development for analytical instruments is essential.
  • Familiarity with metallographic methods and grain size measurement is a plus.
  • Exposure to aerospace quality systems such as AS9100 and Nadcap is desirable.

Responsibilities

  • Provide technical leadership in the laboratory under the direction of the Quality Manager.
  • Master chemistry sample preparation and analysis using existing lab equipment and procedures.
  • Refine laboratory methods to improve efficiency and accuracy.
  • Compile data from plant operations and assist with calibration management.
  • Contribute to quality system documents and prepare for audits.

Job description

Under the direction of the Quality Manager, the Chemical Analyst provides technical leadership in the laboratory, and participates in daily laboratory tasks that directly support key production and quality system activities and metrics. You will have the opportunity to: Master current chemistry sample preparation and analysis using existing laboratory equipment and procedures. Provide technical and procedural refinement for laboratory methods to improve efficiency and accuracy. Experience with method development for analytical chemistry instruments is essential. Demonstrate technical leadership to enhance knowledge base for laboratory technician staff. Compile data from plant operations including laboratory generated chemistry and other test results. Assist with management of calibration systems. Take an active role in creation and improvement of quality system documents (procedures, forms, etc.). Contribute to preparation for aerospace, customer and other audits.

REQUIREMENTS
  • Two- or four-year degree in chemistry, chemical engineering, or a natural science discipline; or: One (1) to two (2) years or more of analytical laboratory experience in the Essential Duties and Responsibilities above.
  • One or more years of commercial experience with inorganic chemical analysis methods including sample preparation required.
  • Method development for chemical analysis instruments is essential.
  • Experience with common metallographic methods and grain size measurement is a plus.
  • Familiarity with or exposure to aerospace quality systems such as AS9100 and Nadcap.
