Job summary

American Battery Technology Company in Reno, NV is seeking an Analytical Chemist to support our lithium-ion battery recycling and metal extraction processes. You will operate ICP-OES, IC, TOC, GC-FID/MS, and related instruments, analyze data, and help produce CoAs for commercial-scale battery materials.

You will work with R&D, engineering and plant ops to ensure instrument uptime, proper sample prep, and compliance with GLP while training staff and maintaining supplies.

Qualifications

  • Background in Analytical Chemistry or Chemical Engineering with 3+ years of lab instrumentation experience.
  • Experience with GC, HPLC, TOC, IC, ICP and related titration techniques.
  • Ability to analyze data, validate results and report QC findings.

Responsibilities

  • Operate analytical instruments per SOPs (ICP-OES, IC, TOC, GC-FID/MS, pH and titrators).
  • Analyze data, validate results and generate CoA for final products.
  • Coordinate lab operations and maintain supplies for analyses.
  • Receive samples, prepare analyses and perform routine instrument maintenance.
  • Train new staff on methods and instrumentation while adhering to GLP.

American Battery Technology Company (ABTC) provides technical development and commercialization of domestic, sustainable sourcing of critical battery materials through lithium-ion battery recycling and battery metal extraction technologies for use in batteries that power electric cars, grid storage applications, and consumer electronics and tools. Our first of kind systems produce commercial-scale battery materials thataresold into the battery manufacturing supply chain.

AsAnalyticalChemist,theincumbenthelpsperformallfacetsoflaboratory operations andchemicalanalyses to supportprocessdesign& implementationofour proprietary lithium-ion battery recycling processesand primary resource extraction technologies.This candidate will work closely with our engineering organization, our plant operations team,and ourR&D teamto ensure the successful design, construction,and operations of our facilities.

Our pilot plant inMcCarren, Nevadaisthe first integrated implementation of our multi-step processing train for the full mechanical processing, physical separations, chemical extractions, and production of commercial-scale battery metals that will be resold back into the battery manufacturing supply chain to enact a low-cost, low-environmental impact, and domestically sourced closed-loop circular economy.This position willreportto theDirector of Analytical Services.

Perform routineoperation of analytical instrumentationaccording tostandardizedoperating procedures(SOP),including but not limited to

  • Inductively Coupled Plasma Optical Emissions Spectroscopy (ICP-OES)
  • Ion Chromatography (IC)
  • Total Organic Carbon analyzer (TOC)
  • Titrators, pH sensors, and various other benchtopanalytical instrumentation
  • Gas Chromatography (GC-FID/MS)

Performdata analysis, validation, and reporting of quality control testing to supportcommercial-scale battery metalssold to the battery manufacturing supply chainincluding

  • Sample data and analytical results entry in Laboratory Information Management System
  • Generate Certification of Analyses (CoA) forfinal products

Help coordinate analytical chemistry lab operations, including but not limited to

  • Maintainadequatesupplies of laboratory consumables
  • Receiveand processincoming samples for chemical analysis
  • Performroutine maintenanceand troubleshootingof analytical instrumentation
  • Trainnew analytical chemistry technicalstaff on methods and instrumentation

Ensureasafe laboratory work environmentbyadheringto Good Laboratory Practices(GLP)including

  • Use ofPersonal Protective Equipment(PPE)as appropriate
  • Uphold laboratoryhygienepolicies and proceduresthroughrecords keeping andmanagement oflaboratory waste
Minimum Qualifications

A background inAnalytical Chemistry/Chemical Engineeringwith3or more yearsof laboratory experienceoperatinginstrumentationandperforming samplepreparation

  • Organicanalytical instrumentation including(GC, HPLC, TOC)
  • Liquid/Liquid Extraction, Solid Phase Extraction,Semi-Prep LC
  • Inorganic analytical instrumentation(IC, ICP)
  • Variousacid-base titrations and measurements
  • Chemical processing background (Oil,Gas& Chemicals, Metals & Mining, Mineral Processing, etc.)
Physical Demands

Lifting, carrying, pushing, pulling activitiesrequired to move laboratory equipment and consumables such as instrumentation,compressed gas cylinders,and dewars.

Positional demands of the jobsuch as standing at sample processing and analytical instrumentationon benchtops and in chemical fume hoodsas well as sitting at computer workstations processinganalytical data.

Expected Pay Range

$30/hr - $40/hr

Compensation for this position may vary based on a number of individualized factors, including market location, job-related knowledge, skills, experience, and relevant education or training. The total compensation package may also include additional components such as bonus, equity, and benefits, which will be detailed upon offer of employment.
