Job summary

American Battery Technology Company seeks a Technical Program Manager to lead the Battery Recycling Team. This role guides projects from lab concept through construction and commissioning on a commercial scale, coordinating with R&D, engineering, procurement, and operations.

The ideal candidate has chemical engineering background or equivalent, 2–5 years in related development and scale-up, and strong communication and management skills in a fast-paced environment.

Qualifications

  • B.S. in Chemical Engineering or equivalent experience.
  • 2-5 years in early development, pilot testing, design, procurement, construction, and commissioning of chemical refining and/or recycling systems.
  • Experience with chemical processes such as organics treatment, leaching, filtration, evaporation, extraction, dosing, refining.
  • Demonstrated ability to influence technical requirements and deliver results on complex projects.
  • Strong project management skills including cost control and scheduling discipline.
  • Excellent communication, presentation, and documentation abilities with the capacity to distill complex problems into clear plans.

Responsibilities

  • Owns design plan of record and scope definition for facility and processing equipment, aligning with company objectives.
  • Drives projects from concept to completion and manages transitions between project phases.
  • Owns facility scoping with cross-functional teams and defines options, costs, and schedules.
  • Manages program resourcing, scheduling, success criteria, budgets, and progress reporting.
  • Leads cross-functional reviews across R&D, analytical, manufacturing, construction, procurement, facilities, and EHS.
  • Proposes new projects and scopes and integrates additional teams as needed.
  • Influences and drives teams without direct reporting authority.
  • Supports multiple roles including engineering design, construction management, and procurement when required.

Job description

American Battery Technology Company (ABTC) provides technical development and commercialization of domestic, sustainable sourcing of critical battery materials through lithium-ion battery recycling and battery metal extraction technologies for use in batteries that power electric cars, grid storage applications, and consumer electronics and tools. Our first of kind systems produce commercial-scale battery materials thataresold into the battery manufacturing supply chain.

As a Technical Program Manager on the Battery Recycling Team, you will lead and own all facets of technical projects associated with this major line of business. Responsibilities include scoping, resource management, technical planning, and oversight of budgets with a focus on driving technical efforts from laboratory concept through to construction and commissioning on a commercial scale. You will work closely with our executive officers, project controls, R&D, engineering, procurement, construction, our plant operations team, and various external experts to ensure the successful development of technologies and manufacturing facilities. The ideal candidate is comfortable working projects involving the design, installation, commissioning, operation and scale-up of both large-scale greenfield facilities and existing facilities. This candidate should be passionate about designing, implementing, and maintaining efficient recycling processes, ensuring quality control of output, developing equipment and infrastructure, and working in a high-performance and fast-paced environment. This person will be a problem-solver and have a keen interest in scaling processes proven at the bench-scale up to pilot, pre-commercial, or commercial scales. This includes a constant focus on evaluating current processing steps and proposing and developing next-generation solutions to continuously improve system performance and operability. This position will report to the Project Management Office (PMO).

  • Owns design plan of record and scope definition on both facility and processing equipment integrating company key results and objectives. Fundamentally understands and scrutinizes technical stakeholders' requirements and translates them into project scope with clear implementation plans and obligations.
  • Drives projects from concept to completion and facilitates the transition between project phases required to validate, design, procure, install, and commission a manufacturing facility.
  • Owns the facility scoping endeavors by pulling together cross functional teams, understanding their requirements, drives project planning, defines options/tradeoffs and cost/schedule impacts, and ensures alignment between the working and leadership teams.
  • Owns program resourcing, scheduling, success criteria, budgets and reporting tools for visibility on progress, risks, changes, etc.
  • Lead cross-functional team reviews including R&D, analytical, manufacturing, production, factory engineering, construction, procurement, facilities, workplace, and EHS.
  • Often takes the lead on leadership status reviews, funding requests, & cross functional studies.
  • Proposes and initiates new projects and scopes with project teams as they are added to the plan of record.
  • Influence and drive a variety of teams without direct reporting authority.
  • Willingness to wear multiple hats and support additional project activities including engineering design, construction management, procurement, etc. when needed.
Qualifications
  • B.S. in Chemical Engineering preferred, OR equivalent experience and evidence of extraordinary ability.
  • 2-5 years of experience in early development, pilot testing, design, procurement, construction, and commissioning of chemical refining and/or recycling systems
  • Prior experience with chemical processes and technologies such as organics treatment, leaching, filtration, evaporation, extraction, dosing, refining, etc.
  • Demonstrated ability to understand and make meaningful impact to technical requirements on projects.
  • Project management skills, including cost management and scheduling, and proven application of these
  • project and program management fundamentals on complex engineering problems.
  • Excellent communication, presentation, and documentation abilities with the capacity to understand complex problems and distill the message into a clear plan.
  • Demonstrated experience in leading both internal teams and external integrators to deliver both mid-sized capital equipment systems and facility development projects ($1-5MM+ valuation).
  • Flourishes under pressure and in ambiguous environments.
  • A willingness and ability to learn, think outside of the box, and develop new skills.
  • Prior experience on government grants a plus.

Expected Pay Range

$100k - $135k per year.

Compensation for this position may vary based on a number of individualized factors, including market location, job-related knowledge, skills, experience, and relevant education or training. The total compensation package may also include additional components such as bonus, equity, and benefits, which will be detailed upon offer of employment.
