Job summary

Union County College seeks an Analyst of Institutional Research to support evaluation and outcomes assessment. You will compile data, generate reports, and assist IPEDS compliance for state and NCES.

Reporting to the Executive Director, you will produce descriptive and multivariate analyses, manage surveys, and help prepare data for grant proposals while collaborating with faculty and staff.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in the social sciences or related field with quantitative methods.
• Experience in institutional research or data analysis in higher education preferred.

Responsibilities

• Supports leadership with internal/external research and analysis of labor-related issues.
• Assists in planning and conducting institutional research projects.
• Prepares IPEDS reports and attests data accuracy for NJ/state and NCES.
• Responds to information requests from external agencies.
• Writes reports using Excel, SPSS, or BI outputs.
• Supports grant proposal development and grant evaluations.
• Recruits and supervises survey research efforts.
• Assists in data books and program reviews.
• Prepares data for web pages and creates data visuals.

General Description

Under the direction of the Executive Director of Institutional Research, the Analyst of Institutional Research compiles data and information used in evaluation, institutional effectiveness, and outcomes assessment.

Responsibilities

• Supports leadership/administration with internal/external research and analysis of labor- related issues to support program reviews and collective bargaining agreement negotiations.
• Assists the Executive Director of Institutional Research in planning, developing, coordinating, and conducting institutional research effectiveness projects.
• Supports preparation of IPEDS (Integrated Postsecondary Education Data System) reports for the institution, i.e., attests to the accuracy of the data reported to the State of New Jersey Office of the Secretary of Higher Education and the National Center for Educational Statistics.
• Responds to requests for information from external agencies, e.g., College Board Survey, Middle States Annual Institutional Update, NJ Council of County Colleges, etc.
• Writes standardized computer software reports (e.g., using Excel, EAB Edify, or SPSS output) for the purposes of providing descriptive, multivariate, and univariate statistics.
• Provides data and information used in the development of grant proposals as well as in grant evaluations.
• Recruits, schedules, supervises, and prepares paperwork associated with survey research efforts.
• Assists in the creation and dissemination of the fall and spring Data Books.
• Assists in the academic program review process.
• Prepares data for the Assessment, Planning, and Research office’s web pages.
• Constructs tables and charts for presentations of data in accordance with the American Psychological Association format.
• Prepares in narrative form a written analysis and summary of data or assessment results.
• Maintains effective working relationships with faculty and staff. Also maintains effective working relationships with the statewide IPEDS coordinator, located in the State of New Jersey Office of the Secretary of Higher Education.
• Performs other duties as assigned by the Executive Director of Institutional Research.

Education Requirements

Minimum, a Bachelor’s degree in the social sciences (e.g., Psychology, Sociology, or Public Policy), Business, IT, STEM (e.g., Mathematics, Statistics) or related field that emphasizes quantitative research methods and database management.

Experience

At least two years of research experience (data collection, retrieval, analysis, and reporting), preferably in an institution of higher learning or an equivalent combination of education and work experience from which comparable knowledge and abilities can be acquired.

Competencies and Skills Required

• AI literacy as a core analytic competency
• Ability to work independently, to organize, and plan assignments to meet deadlines
• Working knowledge of the following software applications: SPSS , MS Excel and Word, Colleague ( SIS ), and Ellucian’s Business Objects (BO) or Insights; familiarity with Tableau, Lightcast, Python, and ChatGPT are a plus
• Working knowledge of word processing, graphics, spreadsheet, presentation, internet, and web-authorizing software
• Must communicate effectively, orally, and in writing
• Basic knowledge of assessment and evaluation are a plus
• Ability to handle confidential information discreetly
• Curiosity

Physical Demands and Work Environment

This position’s duties are normally performed in a typical interior/residence work environment, based on the activity scheduled.

• Some physical effort required; however, the employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds.
• No or very limited exposure to physical risk.
• Some travel required.

Salary

Salary $65,000 - $70,000
