About Babel Institute

Babel Institute is an independent, nonpartisan public policy think tank dedicated to advancing practical solutions to the political, economic, and social challenges facing young people around the world. Its work spans the United States, Latin America, Europe, and Africa.

At the heart of our mission is Verity Voices, the publishing arm of the think tank and our youth-centered platform for commentary and storytelling. The journal is scheduled to launch on August 23, 2026.

Verity Voices will combine rigorous research with lived experience to examine the issues shaping the lives of young people. Our goal is to connect empirical analysis with firsthand experience so that policy is evidence-based and responsive to the people it is intended to serve.

Position Overview

The Children and Youth in Conflict Analyst will research and write on the impact of armed conflict, political instability, and humanitarian crises on children and young people around the world.

The analyst will conduct original research on issues such as child protection, forced displacement, education during conflict, the recruitment of children by armed groups, humanitarian assistance, youth peacebuilding, and international responses to conflict. The analyst will also produce articles, essays, reports, and policy briefs for Verity Voices and other Babel Institute platforms.

This position is designed for students and early-career professionals interested in international affairs, humanitarian issues, human rights, conflict studies, journalism, or public policy.

Responsibilities

Conduct research on conflicts and humanitarian crises affecting children and youth.

Produce articles, essays, reports, and policy briefs.

Monitor emerging conflicts and developments involving children's rights, forced displacement, education, humanitarian assistance, and peacebuilding.

Review reports, academic research, government publications, and other credible sources.

Translate complex issues into clear and accessible writing.

Revise written work based on editorial feedback.

Qualifications

Current undergraduate or graduate student, recent graduate, or early-career professional.

Strong research, analytical, and writing skills.

Demonstrated interest in international affairs, humanitarian issues, conflict studies, public policy, political science, human rights, journalism, or a related field.

Ability to synthesize complex information and communicate it clearly.

Ability to work independently and manage deadlines.

Previous research or writing experience is preferred

All applicants must be based in the United States and legally authorized to work in the United States. Babel Institute is unable to sponsor or assume sponsorship of an employment visa or other work authorization for this position.

Compensation

This is a paid, part-time position compensated at $19.50 per hour.

Time Commitment

The expected time commitment is approximately 8 to 10 hours per week. Scheduling is flexible and designed to accommodate academic commitments.
