Job summary

The Aviation Institute of Maintenance in Chicago is seeking an experienced Aircraft Mechanic Instructor to deliver FAA-aligned curriculum and prepare students for careers in aircraft maintenance. The instructor will foster a supportive learning environment, maintain accurate records, and develop course materials. Candidates should have at least three years of hands-on experience, along with an FAA A&P Mechanic Certificate and a strong commitment to education. Qualifications

  • Minimum three years of hands-on aircraft maintenance experience required.

Responsibilities

  • Teach FAA-aligned curriculum in a supportive classroom.
  • Develop and revise course materials with program leadership.
  • Maintain accurate attendance and documentation.
  • Address concerns affecting student performance.
  • Participate in training and classroom observations.

Job description

Location: 3711 S Ashland Ave, Chicago, IL 60609

Compensation: Up to $41/hour + $5,000 Sign-on Bonus (for those hired by 7/1/2026)

Schedule Options: 4 or 5 days per week depending on campus needs and candidate preference.

  • AM: Monday–Thursday, 7:00 AM – 5:00 PM | Friday: Off
  • PM: Monday–Thursday, 1:30 PM – 11:30 PM | Friday: Off

Relocation: $2,500 relocation for qualified candidates out of the area

About the Role

We are seeking an experienced and dedicated Aircraft Mechanic Instructor to prepare students for successful careers in aircraft maintenance by delivering our FAA-aligned curriculum through high quality instruction, demonstrating hands‑on techniques and fostering an engaging and supportive learning environment.

Key Responsibilities
  • Teach our FAA-aligned curriculum in a positive, supportive classroom environment that encourages participation and skill development
  • Support program leadership in the development and revision of high quality, accurate course materials
  • Record accurate attendance, grades, evaluations, and other required documentation
  • Notify leadership of any emerging concerns affecting student performance or classroom operations
  • Complete required training and participate in classroom observations and evaluations
  • Complete other tasks and projects assigned by Supervisor
Qualifications
Education
  • High School Diploma or GED
  • Associate degree in a related field preferred
Experience
  • At least three (3) years of hands‑on aircraft maintenance experience
Skillset
  • Strong command of aircraft maintenance systems and procedures with a demonstrated commitment to continuous learning
  • Experience with and openness to learning Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, SharePoint, Teams)
  • Flexibility to work outside scheduled hours as needed
Licensure
  • FAA Airframe and/or Powerplant (A&P) Mechanic Certificate
