Job summary

CJ Schwan's is seeking a full-time Maintenance Technician to perform daily maintenance and repairs on ammonia refrigeration systems in a food manufacturing environment in Pasadena, TX. The role requires hands-on experience with boilers, ammonia compressors, electrical/mechanical maintenance, and Hazmat readiness.

You will work a night-oriented schedule Thursday–Saturday and one midweek shift, with a shift differential of $1.50 after 6 p.m.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED; two-year degree in a specialized maintenance trade preferred.
• 2+ years of related refrigeration maintenance experience, including boilers and ammonia compressors.
• Ability to safely use APR, SCBA, and obtain Hazmat certification.
• Advanced electrical and mechanical maintenance skills; may require boiler and forklift licenses.

Responsibilities

• Perform thorough daily inspections and maintenance on ammonia refrigeration systems (air conditioners, compressors, evaporators, boilers) with proper lubrication, coolant levels, airflow, and defrost cycles.
• Execute complex repairs and complete overhauls on refrigeration equipment; service ammonia systems, replace valves/pumps, reset compressors, calibrate temperature probes/CO2 monitors.
• Install, replace, and maintain motors, pumps, switches, safety controls, solenoids, fuses; manage parts inventory and maintenance records.
• Assist with setup, teardown, fabrication, and installation of plant equipment; support major repairs and construction for plant buildings and machinery.
• Comply with safety protocols including LOTO, Confined Space, Respiratory Protection, Fall Protection; participate in Hazmat training.
