Job summary

CJ Schwan's is seeking a skilled maintenance technician to oversee ammonia refrigeration systems in a food manufacturing environment. The role focuses on routine inspections, preventive maintenance, and complex repairs to ensure safe, efficient operation.

You will work a second shift (5:00pm–5:00am, Wed–Sat) with a starting pay of $30.00 per hour plus a $1.50 differential during the 2:30 p.m. – 4:00 a.m. window. Strong safety discipline is required.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED; two‑year degree in a specialized maintenance trade preferred.
• 2+ years of refrigeration maintenance experience, including boilers and ammonia compressors.
• Ability to safely use APR/SCBA and obtain Hazmat certification.
• Possession of licenses such as boiler and forklift certifications (CARO a plus).
• Physically capable of lifting up to 50 lbs and following all safety policies.

Responsibilities

• Perform daily inspections and maintenance on ammonia refrigeration systems (air conditioners, compressors, evaporators, boilers).
• Execute repairs and overhauls on refrigeration equipment; isolate and service ammonia systems, replace valves/pumps, reset compressors, calibrate probes/CO2 monitors.
• Install and maintain motors, pumps, switches, safety controls, fuses; manage parts inventory and records.
• Assist with setup, teardown, fabrication, and installation of plant equipment; support major repairs and construction.
• Comply with safety protocols including LOTO, Confined Space, Respiratory Protection, and HazMat training.
