Job summary

SIG SAUER is seeking an Intern in Ammo Research & Development for the Spring 2027 semester. This entry-level role involves testing and developing ammunition using standard lab equipment and generating detailed reports.

You will collaborate with Design Engineers, Manufacturing Engineering, Production and Quality on new product development, design validation, data collection, troubleshooting and safety. The position requires enrollment in a Science/Technology degree, strong measuring tool skills,

Qualifications

• High school diploma required.
• Currently enrolled in Science and Technology degree program.
• Knowledge of traditional measuring devices (indicators, height gauges, calipers, micrometers).
• Experience reading drawings and blueprints, GD&T knowledge.
• Functional knowledge of quality inspection equipment in ammo manufacturing.
• Basic understanding of components, assemblies, and form/fit/function.
• Basic Microsoft Word and Excel skills.
• Experience with firearms is preferred; shooting experience preferred.

Responsibilities

• Assist with the design of new ammunition components and cartridges.
• Handload various ammunition for test and evaluation.
• Directly assist in engineering and production testing of new products.
• Provide planning and execution of mechanical inspection for product acceptability.
• Assist in development of fixtures and gauges.
• Test ammunition to SAAMI standards and record key data (pressure, velocity, accuracy, primer sensitivity).
• Operate test equipment per manuals and industry standards.
• Follow test plans to execute testing; document raw data and write reports to SIG SAUER standards.
• Analyze data to provide periodic status reports to management.
• Participate in root-cause analysis to prevent customer escapes.
• Must be able to work evenings, weekends, or holidays as needed.
• Maintain range certification and handle firearms per policy.
• Support 5S standards and ISO EH&S requirements.
• Travel infrequently.
• Miscellaneous duties as assigned.
