Job summary

AMI Architect role based in Los Angeles focuses on owning the end-to-end technical architecture of Advanced Metering Infrastructure, spanning meters, network, head end, and MDM/CIS integrations. You will drive design decisions for a universal head end and vendor-agnostic data models to support scalable, secure meter management.

You will lead deployment planning, standards for cybersecurity, and cross-functional collaboration with engineering and executive stakeholders.

Qualifications

• 8+ years in utility technology with 5+ years architecting AMI/smart metering in production at scale
• Hands-on experience with Universal Head End System (UHES)
• Deep knowledge of major AMI ecosystems: Itron, Landis+Gyr, Sensus, Aclara, Honeywell/Elster
• Strong understanding of AMI comms: RF mesh, cellular, PLC, etc.
• Experience integrating head end with MDM/CIS/billing
• Knowledge of metering fundamentals and data flows
• Ability to define NF requirements and security patterns
• Excellent communication between technical and executive stakeholders

Responsibilities

• Define and maintain reference architecture for full AMI stack including meters, network, head end, and downstream systems
• Govern UHES, adapter/driver layer for multi-vendor support
• Design integration between head end and MDM/CIS/billing with data models and VEE
• Set standards for endpoint provisioning, key management, and data flow for billing
• Lead network design, capacity planning, and read success targets
• Lead vendor evaluation and document architecture decisions
• Define non-functional requirements for scale, HA/DR and security
• Provide technical leadership through deployment and day-2 operations
• Mentor engineers on AMI architecture patterns
