Job summary

The RISE Network is seeking AmeriCorps On-Track Mentors to support ninth-grade students in Stamford, CT, as part of a national effort to improve educational equity. Mentors work full-time in schools, building relationships, tracking progress, and guiding students through the transition to high school and beyond.

You will join a cohort, receive a living stipend, and participate in ongoing training. This in-person role starts in early fall and runs through June, with grant funding contingent.

Qualifications

• Strong communication skills for engaging with students, families, and educators.
• Proficient in tracking student progress and data entry.
• Experience working with high school-age youth and their families.
• Ability to interact professionally with diverse stakeholders.
• Ability to work under pressure and juggle competing demands.
• Basic proficiency in data tracking systems and standard software.

Responsibilities

• Build trusting, supportive relationships with students, families, and school staff.
• Serve as a liaison between families and the school, providing progress updates.
• Support a caseload of up to 50 first-time Grade 9 students.
• Provide one-on-one coaching to help students stay on-track.
• Develop personalized plans and monitor progress with regular check-ins.
• Coordinate timely academic and non-academic interventions with staff.
• Participate in weekly meetings to review data and adjust support.
• Design and facilitate group sessions and meetings.
• Identify early warning signs using data and respond proactively.
• Maintain accurate records of meetings, interventions, and outcomes.
• Demonstrate empathy and professional inclusivity.
