Job summary

The Vermont Land Trust in Newport, Vermont is seeking a Land Management and Restoration Coordinator for a full-time AmeriCorps term from January 12, 2027 to December 10, 2027. You will help build baseline information, monitor riparian restoration projects, and support land management across VLT lands.

Responsibilities

• Conduct invasive plant and insect assessments and develop associated management plan activities.
• Coordinate invasive species control efforts on VLT Lands, including contractor oversight and volunteer coordination.
• Conduct monitoring and manual removal of invasive plants on VLT Lands.
• Participate in Cooperative Invasive Species Management Associations (CISMA) in Northern Vermont.
• Conduct recreational trail assessments and develop associated management plan activities to address erosion issues.
• Coordinate, implement, and monitor water quality and erosion control improvements on VLT trails.
• Coordinate with contractors and volunteer groups on trail improvement activities.
• Maintain VLT trails, access areas, and signage as needed.
• Manage community garden including: pre-season soil and site preparation, water irrigation set up and maintenance, compost management, and end of season closeout.
• Support VLT’s land management through public access management, pollinator habitat enhancement, forest management practices, and boundary line maintenance.
• Manage tracking, inventory, and maintenance of equipment used to support VLT Lands program.
• Collaborate with VLT staff and partners to deliver educational programs on VLT’s initiatives.
• Support VLT’s goal to establish high-quality forested riparian buffers on conserved lands by physically flagging new buffers on conserved farms, coordinating with staff and watershed partners for tree plantings, engaging stakeholders, tend and monitor planted trees post-planting.
• Track and record program activities using internal tools.
• Assist project directors in buffer-related components of new farm project development.
• Participate in an Independent Service Project under the guidance of VHCB AmeriCorps.
• Participate in all VHCB AmeriCorps Program Initiatives & outreach efforts, and storytelling activities that promote AmeriCorps.
• Engage in professional and personal development activities and networking opportunities.
• Submit bi-weekly timesheets.
• Complete all enrollment and exit requirements.
