Habitat for Humanity International is seeking a Construction Crew Leader for a one-year AmeriCorps service position in Richmond, VA. You will lead volunteer groups in home construction activities, supervise hands-on tasks, and ensure a safe, productive work site while developing construction and volunteer management skills.

AmeriCorps National members serve the community in direct service and capacity building activities.

Construction Crew Leader

What will you do?

The construction crew leader plays an integral part in building and repairing homes. Lead groups of skills and unskilled volunteers and homeowner families in construction activities while maintaining a safe, efficient work environment, thus, developing and enhancing your volunteer management and construction skills.

• Typically serve Tuesday – Saturday on the build site.
• Assist with all aspects of hands-on construction tasks including, but not limited to, demolition, site prep, framing, insulation, drywall, flooring, roofing, finish carpentry and landscaping.
• Projects may include new construction, rehabilitation, critical home repair and weatherization projects.
• Lead small groups of volunteers and facilitate safe and positive experiences for everyone working on site.
• Maintain site safety by adhering to Habitat construction safety policies, modeling best practices and guidelines, volunteer education and site monitoring.

This position will focus on home construction aspects of Habitat affiliate operations.

Activities and attractions: Richmond is the capital of the Commonwealth of Virginia. Incorporated in 1742, and becoming an independent city in 1871, history is big part of what makes Richmond a great place to explore and live. Several notable events have occurred in the city, including Patrick Henry’s “Give me liberty or give me death” speech in 1775 at St. John’s Church, and the passage of the Virginia Statute for Religious Freedom written by Thomas Jefferson. We even have an entire district of museums to learn more! The city is located along the James River with many beautiful parks, offering locals and visitors the opportunity for many outdoor adventures. We are a city with many restaurants whose atmospheres as unique as their menus. RVA is also located about an hour and a half from the ocean (VA Beach), an hour and a half from the mountains, and an hour and a half from Washington DC!

Unique projects: We will be doing our first 3D concrete printing development this year. It will consist of 5 single family homes.

When will you serve?

Start dates are flexible and based on this location’s availability. Talk to the hiring manager for this position about start dates during your interview process. The start date will be 4-6 weeks from receiving an offer and no earlier than September 2026.
