Job description

Richmond Metropolitan Habitat for Humanity

Build More Than Homes. Build Hope.

Every home we build creates new opportunities for local families. As a Construction Site Supervisor II, you’ll do more than manage a construction site—you’ll lead volunteers, mentor future homeowners, build strong teams, and help transform lives through affordable homeownership.

Our mission is to inspire and mobilize our communities to construct and preserve affordable housing for our neighbors throughout the Richmond region.

If you’re passionate about residential construction, enjoy teaching others, and want your work to make a lasting impact in the community, we’d love to meet you.

Key Responsibilities
What You’ll Do

No two days are the same, but every day you’ll make an impact.

Lead Construction Projects

Lead residential construction projects from site preparation through final completion while maintaining high standards of quality, safety, and craftsmanship.

  • Develop daily work plans that align with project schedules and construction milestones.
  • Coordinate subcontractors, inspections, equipment, materials, and deliveries.
  • Monitor project progress, identify challenges, and proactively implement solutions.
  • Complete punch lists and support successful project closeout.

One of the most rewarding parts of this role is leading volunteers who help make Habitat’s mission possible.

  • Welcome volunteers and create an engaging, inclusive, and rewarding experience.
  • Conduct daily volunteer orientations and safety meetings.
  • Explain Habitat’s mission and connect volunteers to the impact of their work.
  • Assess volunteer skills and assign meaningful tasks.
  • Teach construction techniques while coaching and encouraging volunteers throughout the day.
  • Foster teamwork, confidence, and collaboration.
  • Partner with Community Engagement staff to support volunteer events and build days.
Champion Safety
  • Lead daily safety briefings and job hazard assessments.
  • Ensure OSHA standards and Habitat safety policies are followed.
  • Monitor volunteers, employees, subcontractors, and visitors for safe work practices.
  • Address unsafe conditions immediately.
  • Maintain required safety certifications and documentation.
Coordinate Construction Operations
  • Maintain project schedules and daily construction reports.
  • Coordinate inspections, permits, and subcontractor schedules.
  • Verify material deliveries and maintain equipment inventories.
  • Communicate project progress, risks, and resource needs to the VP of Construction and Project Manager.
  • Utilize construction management software and organizational systems to maintain accurate project records.
Lead People
  • Support AmeriCorps members, interns, volunteers, and new team members.
  • Encourage collaboration, accountability, and continuous improvement.
  • Model Richmond Habitat’s core values in every interaction.

  • Build positive relationships with homeowners, volunteers, donors, vendors, and community partners.
  • Represent Richmond Metropolitan Habitat for Humanity professionally on every job site.
  • Create memorable volunteer experiences that inspire people to return and support Habitat’s mission.
What Makes You Successful
  • Enjoys leading people as much as leading projects.
  • Is passionate about teaching and mentoring others.
  • Communicates effectively with volunteers, subcontractors, homeowners, and coworkers.
  • Thrives in a collaborative, fast‑paced environment.
  • Demonstrates strong problem‑solving and organizational skills.
  • Takes pride in quality workmanship and job site safety.
  • Believes everyone deserves a safe, affordable place to call home.
