Ambulette drivers are responsible for providing non‑medical transportation to clients. It's their job to handle loading the patient in and out of the vehicle, using wheelchair lift equipment as appropriate, and to keep the vehicle comfortable for the patient.
Drivers also need to comply with facility policies on patient confidentiality and on protecting their patients, their vehicles and themselves from bloodborne pathogens.
Drivers are expected to be on time, professionally dressed in a pressed uniform, and friendly both to patients and to facility personnel.
Ambulette drivers keep logs of their trips that are used both for recordkeeping and billing purposes. In the event of a vehicle accident or patient incident, the driver will have to fill out reports on what happened. During trips, ambulette drivers are expected to stay in touch with their base stations via a two‑way radio.
