Job summary

Vitruvian Health is seeking an Ambulatory Pre-Op/Post-Op RN to deliver safe, patient- and family-centered care across the surgical continuum. This role uses the nursing process to prepare patients for procedures and guide recovery before discharge.

Responsibilities include pre-operative assessments, IV starts, medication administration, post-anesthesia care, and clear discharge instructions. You’ll collaborate with surgeons, anesthesiologists, and families to ensure smooth perioperative flow

Qualifications

  • RN with active license in the state.
  • Experience in perioperative nursing or ambulatory surgery.
  • Strong patient- and family-centered care approach.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct pre-operative assessments and verify medical histories.
  • Initiate IVs and administer pre-op meds as required.
  • Monitor patient status in PACU and manage post-op recovery.
  • Provide comprehensive discharge instructions to patients and caregivers.

The Ambulatory Pre-Op/Post-Op RN

delivers safe, patient- and family-centered care across the surgical continuum. This role utilizes the nursing process (assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation) to prepare patients for procedures and manage their recovery before discharge

Pre-Operative Care
  • Perform physical and psychosocial patient assessments, review medical histories, and verify surgical site/informed consent.
  • Review daily schedules, prepare clinical care areas, and complete pre-operative phone interviews or scheduling.
  • Start intravenous (IV) lines, administer pre-op medications, and obtain necessary diagnostic test results.
  • Communicate patient status changes or clinical concerns to surgeons, anesthesiologists, and family members.
Post-Operative / PACU Recovery Care
  • Monitor patient vitals, hemodynamic status, and level of consciousness as they emerge from anesthesia or sedation.
  • Manage post-procedural pain, treat side effects like nausea, and use aseptic technique for wound or surgical site checks.
  • Complete post-anesthesia documentation and verify that strict clinical discharge criteria are fully met.
  • Deliver thorough discharge instructions and post-op care education to the patient and their designated caregiver.
