Job summary

UHA University Health Associates in Morgantown, WV seeks a licensed Registered Nurse to provide ambulatory care using the nursing process and independent clinical judgment. You will assess patients, develop care plans, and coordinate with the care team to achieve quality outcomes across life spans.

Responsibilities include direct patient care, triage, education for patients and families, and contributing to performance improvement activities.

Qualifications

• Current RN license for the state where services will be provided or multi-state license via eNLC.
• Temporary RN permit may be required by state; obtain per state guidelines.
• MD: must graduate and obtain permanent RN license within 90 days.
• OH: must be licensed; no temporary permit issued.
• PA: must have PA Temporary Permit and obtain permanent licensure within 1 year.
• WV: Grad Permit with permanent licensure within 180 days after graduation.
• Obtain Basic Life Support certification within 30 days of hire.

Responsibilities

• Provides direct patient care within the ambulatory setting, based on the nursing process and within role/scope of practice.
• Performs preliminary assessment of patients through observation and chart review to facilitate appropriate follow-up with health care team.
• Evaluates unstable or complex patient care situations and facilitates appropriate intervention.
• Implements appropriate clinical decisions and demonstrates appropriate use of expert peers and/or management, as applicable.
• Accepts accountability and uses independent nursing judgment for care provided by self and by health care providers to who care is delegated.
• Demonstrates the appropriate use of standards, effective use of resources, and evaluation of patient response in the delivery of patient care.
• Uses standards of care and standards of practice to guide care delivery.
• Bases decisions made/actions taken on relevant scientific principles, established standards of care and/or research findings. Seeks assistance/credible resource when unable to perform safely and independently.
• Determines/revises priorities for direct/indirect patient care activities based on patient acuity and available resources update to daily care plan to include appropriate algorithms for safe patient handling.
• Uses established patient care support systems including documentation, communication, & information.
• Responsible for educational instruction to patients and families with health care needs.
• Identifies teaching/learning needs of patient.
• Evaluates effectiveness of patient and family teaching and makes documentation in patient charts.
• Assists in orientation of new employees according to unit orientation plan.
• Applies information gained from educational experiences when providing patient care and instruction.
• Assumes responsibility for the development of others.
• Engages in mentoring and networking activities to promote professional development.
• Fosters the integration of staff and/or students into the health care team. Facilitates incorporation of the unit's mission, values, and vision.
• Demonstrates skill in the management of conflict situations.
• Functions to promote trusting relationships and open, honest communication at the unit level.
• Engages in exchange of information relevant to specific patient assignment.
• Interacts with various members of the health care team to meet patient care needs.
• Participates in Performance Improvement activities as appropriate.

Education

Current Registered Nurse license (state or multi-state eNLC)

Temporary RN permit requirements per state

Permanent RN license within required timelines (MD 90 days)

Permanent RN license within required timelines (PA 1 year)

Permanent RN license within required timelines (WV 180 days)

BLS certification within 30 days of hire
