The ambulatory pharmacy technician provides integrated support to patients and pharmacists by delivering a 'hands-on' approach to total quality patient care through medication adherence support.

Responsibilities:

1. Interpret and enter prescriptions;
2. Clarify prescription orders with pharmacists and/or clinicians as appropriate;
3. Label and fill prescriptions for pharmacist verification;
4. Perform pharmaceutical calculations;
5. Identify medications requiring special storage or handling, such as hazardous or refrigerated medications;
6. Assemble supplies necessary for medications, such as sharps containers, needles/syringes, alcohol swabs, Band-Aids;
7. Prepare medication for delivery to patients and departments;
8. Provide medication delivery services within hospitals;
9. Answer, resolve, and triage inbound inquiries;
10. Conduct outbound therapy/medication adherence check-ups;
11. Secure refill prescriptions;
12. Resolve insurance issues and assist with financial aid;
13. Maintain pharmacy inventory, including drug ordering and receiving;
14. Communicate with patients over the phone regarding their medications and concerns;
15. Input data, perform adjudication on test claims, and prepare follow-up plans;
16. Manage and update relevant data using database applications;
17. Apply observations to improve operational issues, productivity, quality, and customer service;
18. Identify trends, resolve problems, and recommend improvements;
19. Participate in process improvement initiatives;
20. Act as a value-added partner to stakeholders;
21. Maintain confidentiality of organizational information;
22. Participate in educational opportunities to update job knowledge;
23. Perform other duties as assigned.

Job Qualifications and Specifications

Required Licensure/Certification: Must be registered in Rhode Island as a Pharmacy Technician. National certification as a CPhT must be obtained within 6 months of hire.

Experience: Minimum 1 year required; 5+ years preferred.
