Qualifications

The ambulatory pharmacy technician provides integrated support to patients and pharmacists by delivering a comprehensive approach to total quality patient care through medication adherence support.

Responsibilities
  • Interpret and enter prescriptions
  • Clarify prescription orders with pharmacists and/or clinicians as appropriate
  • Label and fill prescriptions for pharmacist verification
  • Perform pharmaceutical calculations
  • Identify medications requiring special storage and handling, such as hazardous medications or refrigerated items
  • Assemble supplies necessary for medications, such as sharps containers, needles/syringes, alcohol swabs, Band-Aids
  • Prepare medications for delivery to patients and departments
  • Provide medication delivery services within hospitals
  • Answer, resolve, and triage inbound inquiries
  • Conduct outbound medication adherence check-ups
  • Secure refills for prescriptions
  • Resolve insurance issues and assist patients with financial aid
  • Maintain pharmacy inventory, including drug ordering and receiving
  • Communicate with patients over the phone regarding their medications and concerns
  • Input data, perform test claim adjudications, and develop follow-up plans to meet operational goals
  • Manage and update relevant data using database applications
  • Apply observations and recommendations to improve operational efficiency, quality, and customer service
  • Identify trends, resolve problems, and implement improvements
  • Participate in process improvement initiatives
  • Act as a value-added partner to stakeholders throughout the organization
  • Protect organizational value by maintaining confidentiality
  • Enhance job knowledge through educational opportunities, reading, networking, and professional involvement
  • Perform other duties as assigned
Job Qualifications and Specifications

Required Licensure/Certification: Must be registered as a Pharmacy Technician in Rhode Island. National certification as a CPhT must be obtained within 6 months of hire.

Experience: Minimum 1 year; preferred 5+ years as a Pharmacy Technician.
