Job summary

VCU Health System is seeking an Ambulatory Nursing Professional Development Specialist (NPDS) to influence ambulatory education, professional growth, and practice excellence. You will lead evidence-based initiatives and partner across departments to enhance patient outcomes and staff engagement.

The role emphasizes advocating AAACN guidance, promoting Magnet standards, and translating science into practice through adult learning and project management.

Qualifications

• Master's degree in nursing or related field required; if not in nursing, a Baccalaureate Degree in Nursing required.
• Current RN licensure in Virginia or eligible/compact state; BLS/ HCP certification or equivalent preferred.
• Minimum five (5) years of clinical nursing experience; at least three (3) years in staff education and professional development.

Responsibilities

• Lead practice transitions and drive knowledge, skills and attitudes through education.
• Partner with interprofessional colleagues to develop and disseminate education on clinical practice changes, regulatory requirements and safety.
• Apply structured change management (e.g., ADKAR/Kotter) to implement new clinical workflows and care models.
• Develop and support programs for transition to practice, preceptorship, mentoring, and clinical advancement.
• Use project management to scope, plan, execute, and sustain high-impact initiatives with clear charters and timelines.
• Collaborate with key stakeholders to identify practice gaps and drive quality improvement and scholarly collaborations.

Education

Master's degree in nursing or related field

Baccalaureate Degree in Nursing

Preferred: Master's degree in nursing from an accredited program
