Job summary

University of Virginia seeks a Medical Director to provide clinical oversight and leadership for physicians and advanced practice providers in outpatient ambulatory clinics. The role combines direct patient care with administrative duties in quality, compliance, and performance outcomes, reporting to the Chief Operating Officer.

The position collaborates with UVA Health leadership to align clinical practice with organizational standards and to support onboarding, education, and population health

Qualifications

• Graduate of an accredited medical school with an MD or DO and completion of an accredited residency in the applicable specialty
• Board certification or board eligibility in the applicable specialty
• Eligible for unrestricted Virginia medical licensure for the discipline
• DEA registration in scope of practice as applicable
• Demonstrated clinical leadership in ambulatory settings and ability to mentor providers

Responsibilities

• Provide clinical leadership and direction to ensure consistent standards of care.
• Align clinical practice with organizational goals and standards across ambulatory clinics.
• Support provider performance, onboarding, and professional development.
• Collaborate with UPG and UVA Health leaders on strategic priorities and program advancement.
• Monitor clinical quality, safety, and performance metrics and drive improvement actions.
• Lead evaluation and optimization of clinical workflows, documentation standards, and EMR use.
• Represent clinical perspectives in decisions and operational planning.
• Participate in credentialing, privileging, and regulatory compliance efforts.
