Job summary

UChicago Medicine seeks an Ambulatory Medication Access Coordinator to manage prior authorizations for high-cost medications in the Specialty Pharmacy. This role supports patients in ambulatory clinics, troubleshooting insurance issues and coordinating with pharmacists, clinicians, and staff.

Responsibilities include patient communication, enrollment in assistance programs, and maintaining accurate PA paperwork to ensure timely access to therapy.

Qualifications

• Associate's or Bachelor’s degree required.
• Current or eligibility for Illinois Pharmacy Technician licensure.
• 3–5 years pharmacy technician experience in a retail setting or equivalent.
• Strong oral and written communications skills.
• Ability to manage conflicts and deliver strong customer service.
• Ability to work in a fast-paced, changing environment with multiple priorities.

Responsibilities

• Improve patient service and maximize pharmacy revenue by providing prior authorization services for high-cost medications.
• Communicate with patients to verify insurance, benefits, and financial resources; complete PA forms and track approvals.
• Help enroll patients in assistance programs and coordinate with social services and case management.
• Enter patient information into tracking forms and systems.
• Support clinic workflow and prevent therapy interruptions due to insurance issues with pharmacists and staff.
• Provide exemplary customer service to outpatients in the Ambulatory Clinics.
