Job summary

UChicago Medicine seeks an Ambulatory Medication Access Coordinator (AMAC) in the Specialty Pharmacy to manage inbound/outbound calls, complete prior authorizations, and maximize reimbursement for high-cost take-home medications, while coordinating with clinics and social services.

The role emphasizes patient communication, faster authorization processing, and collaboration with pharmacists and clinicians in a fast-paced ambulatory setting at Hyde Park. Sign-on bonus available up to $3,000.

Qualifications

• Associate's or Bachelor’s degree.
• Current or Eligibility for Illinois Pharmacy Technician licensure.
• 3–5 years of pharmacy technician experience in a retail pharmacy.
• Knowledge of and ability to use computers and a variety of computer programs including word processing, database management and spreadsheets.
• Strong oral and written communications skills.
• Ability to effectively manage conflicts and resolve problems.
• Excellent interpersonal and teamwork abilities.
• Ability to function in a fast-paced environment with multiple priorities.
• Knowledge of insurance carrier/managed care review.

Responsibilities

• Improve patient service experience and maximize UCMC pharmacy revenue through prior authorization services for select high-cost medications.
• Communicate with patients to verify insurance, benefits and financial options; complete prior authorization forms and track status.
• Enroll patients in patient assistance programs and collaborate with social services and case management.
• Enter patient information on tracking forms and in computer software.
• Expedite clinic workflow and prevent therapy interruptions due to insurance issues with pharmacists and clinic staff.
• Provide exemplary customer service to outpatients across UCMC via inbound/outbound calls.
