Job description

Ambulatory Float Pool RN

Schedule: M-F Days

Preferred Experience: ICU, ED, Infusion experience helpful but not required.

The Ambulatory Clinical Float Program consists of highly-skilled Registered Nurses (RN) and Certified Medical Office Assistants (CMOA) who provide high-quality care across various clinical areas. The float nurses are trained to support staffing needs in over 60 campus clinics and medical centers, offering broad clinical knowledge and skills, serving as resources in multiple areas. Our goal is to ensure quality patient care, education, and research through skilled and specialized nursing services.

  • Provide flexible and supportive staffing aligned with UT Southwestern's mission.

Qualifications and Education:

  • Graduate of an accredited nursing program.
  • Licensed as a Registered Nurse by the Texas Board of Nurse Examiners.
  • One (1) year of clinical nursing experience preferred; additional experience may be required for certain specialty areas.
  • Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification from AHA or ARC.

Job Responsibilities:

  1. Provide interim nursing staffing across multiple clinics, adapting quickly to different settings with minimal supervision.
  2. Deliver nursing interventions according to the medical care plan, utilizing the nursing process to assess, implement, and document patient responses.
  3. Schedule patient appointments, tests, and procedures; reinforce physician instructions in person and via phone.
  4. Proficient in electronic medical record documentation; provide patient education and document responses.
  5. Triages patient inquiries per protocols, documenting actions in medical records.
  6. Supervise and delegate tasks to licensed vocational nurses, medical staff, or support personnel; contribute to policy and procedural improvements.
  7. Assist physicians during exams and procedures, prepare equipment, and administer prescribed medications.
  8. Ensure safety and proper functioning of equipment and maintain adequate supplies.
  9. Perform other duties as assigned.
