Job summary

SUNY Downstate Health Sciences University seeks a full-time Physician Assistant 1 for the Ambulatory Dialysis unit. The successful candidate will participate in daily rounds, perform admission histories, initial care plans, and regular patient assessments in a CMS-compliant manner.

Responsibilities include documenting weekly dialysis notes with lab data, coordinating radiology and consults, managing medication reconciliation, and contributing to QA/PQI activities.

Qualifications

• Graduate of an AMA approved Physician Assistant Program or Baccalaureate or higher degree program that meets the licensure requirements in the State of New York.
• New York State Physician Assistant Licensure.
• National Certification in New York or in another state with reciprocity.

Responsibilities

• Attend daily rounds on the assigned shifts and participate in care planning.
• Perform admission histories and physicals, and yearly physicals.
• Prepare initial plan of care and follow-up for unstable patients per CMS guidelines.
• Review radiological studies and coordinate appropriate consults.
• Be available for prescription writing and respond to nursing staff questions.
• Participate in QA/PQI programs and ensure medication reconciliation.
• Document lab data and plan changes in patient notes.
• Prepare monthly QA clinical summaries for new patients and communicate with vascular access managers.

Education
