Job summary

SUNY Downstate Health Sciences University is seeking a Dialysis Technician / Vascular Assistant for Ambulatory Dialysis in the evenings. The role involves preparing, operating, and monitoring dialysis procedures in Brooklyn, with emphasis on patient safety and teamwork with the RN.

The successful candidate will have vascular technology certification and dialysis experience, and a Bachelor’s degree is preferred. This is a full-time evening shift with a strong support network.

Qualifications

• Certification in Vascular Technology (CCHT, CHT, Bonnent) is required.
• 1+ year of experience operating hemodialysis equipment and caring for chronic renal disease patients is required.
• Bachelor's Degree and knowledge of dialysis principles is preferred.

Responsibilities

• Prepare dialysis according to prescribed procedures and dialysis prescription.
• Set up and breakdown dialysis machines before and after treatment.
• Maintain a safe environment for patients and staff.
• Test dialysis machine functions, alarms, conductivity, pH, and temperature; set monitors/alarms per protocol.
• Record pre- and post-dialysis vital signs, weight and temperature.
• Inspect dialysis access and initiate/terminate dialysis per unit protocols and prescriptions.
• Document treatment parameters and communicate patient status to the RN.
• Adjust blood flow and fluid removal rates per established protocols.
