Job summary

Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center (TTUHSC) is seeking a Medical Coding Supervisor in Lubbock to lead the centralized ambulatory coding team across clinics in Texas. The role ensures accurate coding, regulatory compliance, and timely encounter completion to support the revenue cycle and organizational objectives.

The ideal candidate has 5+ years in medical coding or auditing with at least 1 year in supervision, plus CPC or CCS certification within 12 months of hire.

Qualifications

• High school diploma and 5+ years of progressively responsible experience as a medical coder or coding auditor, plus 1 year of supervisory experience.
• CPC or CCS certification must be obtained within 12 months after hire and remain active.
• Preferred: CCS-P or CPC certifications.
• Experience with GE Centricity and PowerChart is preferred.

Responsibilities

• Supervise daily operations of the centralized ambulatory coding team, ensuring timely and accurate coding of outpatient encounters.
• Monitor staff productivity and quality, provide coaching and feedback.
• Perform coding and auditing functions to understand workflows across multiple specialties.
• Collaborate with Coding Manager and Revenue Cycle teams to ensure CPT/HCPCS/ICD-10-CM compliance.
• Support implementation and maintenance of coding policies and standard work processes.
• Identify workflow/documentation issues and coordinate resolutions with leadership.
• Participate in coding quality reviews and assist with corrective actions and education plans.
• Deliver coding education and documentation training for coders, faculty, and residents.
• Contribute to system testing, charge capture initiatives, and process improvements.
• Serve as a resource for coders and providers on coding questions and regulatory updates.
• Adhere to Institutional Compliance policies in all coding and billing activity.
