Job summary

Cape Fear Valley Health System is seeking a skilled Medical Coder to join the Physician Financial Services team at Cape Fear Valley Medical Center in Fayetteville, NC. The role focuses on accurate CPT, ICD-10 codes, and modifiers, supporting compliant documentation and revenue integrity.

You will collaborate with physicians and the billing office to reduce denials, educate staff, and develop coding standards.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in health information management or equivalent coding experience.
• CPC, CPMA, RHIA, RHIT, CCS, or CCS-P credentials required.
• Strong knowledge of ICD-CM, LCDs/NCDs, HCCs and documentation standards.

Responsibilities

• Ensure CPT, ICD-10 and modifiers usage on claims is accurate.
• Assist in reducing coding denials and improving front-end edits.
• Advise Business Office on coding denials via documentation reviews.
• Identify revenue opportunities and create educational materials.
• Educate providers and staff to maintain documentation and optimize revenue.
• Analyze providers' coding profiles and documentation patterns.
• Support development of professional coders and coding standards.
• Coordinate with Revenue Integrity to address documentation gaps.
• Notify management about issues impacting performance.
• Perform other duties as assigned.
