Job summary

Zoo New England is seeking an Ambassador Animal Specialist I to oversee daily care and welfare of the ambassador collection within the Education Department. You will work with reptiles, birds, mammals, and amphibians, providing diets, enrichment, and accurate recordkeeping while supporting educational tours and presentations.

Collaborate with leadership to plan enrichment and training, maintain health records, and assist with school programs and events.

Qualifications

• At least one year of experience facilitating animal care in a zoo, aquarium, or shelter setting.
• Preferred experience with Raptors, Reptiles, and Small Mammals.
• Comfortable with public speaking, reading scripts, and implementing basic animal training during public programming.
• Ability to address groups of all ages and aptitudes.
• Excellent communication skills (verbal and written).

Responsibilities

• Daily animal care including diet preparation, feeding, cleaning, medicating, providing behavioral enrichment, etc.
• Attend planning sessions with leadership to evaluate and maintain the species in our collection through ambassador animal planning.
• Maintain records on collection health, enrichment, and training.
• Collaborate with veterinary staff and education team to ensure health and safety of animals.
• Facilitate ambassador animal enrichment programs and growth.
• Support education programs, tours, chats, events, and animal experiences.
