Position: Jr. Sous Chef

Job Summary
Assist in leadership and day‑to‑day operations of the café kitchen, preparing high‑quality, locally sourced meals while ensuring safety, quality, and efficient service. Work within a fast‑paced, collaborative environment for a corporate client base.
Responsibilities
- Maintain a safe working environment and uphold food‑safety guidelines.
- Plan, schedule, and oversee staff, including Kronos time‑clock activity and performance management.
- Ensure consistent recipe adherence and kitchen hygiene, including daily line checks and inventory management.
- Set and monitor prep and production goals to meet café standards.
- Enforce safety culture, conduct line checks, and maintain Health Department audit standards (≥90%).
- Coaching, counseling, and disciplining of hourly employees; apply productivity standards.
- Collaborate with upper management and HR on corrective actions, performance reviews, and employee development.
- Continuously seek opportunities to enhance customer experience and build mutual trust among team members.
Qualifications
- Excellent verbal communication and ability to adapt style to audience.
- Strong culinary skills and knife proficiency for fast, efficient preparation.
- Leadership skills, including delegation and accountability.
- Knowledge of OSHA and health‑department sanitation standards.
- Proficient with Microsoft Office, ERP, and other business software.
- Spanish language ability is a plus.
Experience & Education
- 3‑5 years of kitchen management in a full‑service, moderate‑to‑high‑volume restaurant (or equivalent).
- Culinary degree preferred but not required.
- Track record of safety, attendance, and performance excellence.
Required Certifications & Physical Demands
- Active Management‑Level Food Handlers’ Certification (ServSafe) or local equivalent.
- Must lift up to 20lbsingle and 21‑40lboccasionally; heavier loads require two people.
- Frequent standing, walking, bending, twisting, squatting, and kneeling; good balance and vision required.
- Ability to work in hot environments, wet/greasy surfaces, and around food allergens.
