Job summary

The University of Minnesota Alumni Association seeks a Director of Alumni Advocacy Communications to lead an enterprise-level communications strategy that elevates reputation, engagement and influence among alumni. Youll work with senior leaders and across campuses to advocate for University goals through strategic messaging and media relations.

Qualifications

• BA/BS in Communications, Journalism, Public Relations, or related field.
• Minimum of six years of progressively responsible full-time work experience in communications, public relations, or marketing roles.
• Demonstrated ability to lead high-impact, multi-stakeholder communication strategies in complex organizations.
• Exceptional professionalism and team management skills.
• Outstanding writing, editing, and verbal communication skills; ability to craft executive-level remarks, columns, and strategic presentations.
• Strong record of cross-functional collaboration, especially with senior leaders and external stakeholders.
• Able to work on campus a minimum of three days per week for this hybrid role.

Responsibilities

• Advocacy Communications & Public Affairs: develop and execute advocacy campaigns at the state level and ensure messaging consistency.
• Executive Communications: shape leadership narratives, support CEO/Board communications, and develop high-level presentations.
• System Engagement & Greater Minnesota Strategy: expand UMAA presence across the state with resonant messaging.
• Strategic Communications: craft timely messaging for crises and high-profile issues.
