Job summary

Ellwood Aluminum LLC in Hubbard, OH seeks a senior metallurgical engineer to lead process optimization for aluminum melting, refining, alloying and casting, including high-pressure die casting and sand casting.

The role acts as SME for aluminum metallurgy, oversees NDT and destructive testing, conducts RCFA, mentors engineers and technicians, and collaborates with purchasing to qualify suppliers.

Qualifications

• BS in Metallurgical or Materials Engineering required; MS/PhD preferred.

Responsibilities

• Oversee and optimize aluminum melting, refining, alloying, and casting processes (including high-pressure die casting, permanent mold, or sand casting).
• Serve as subject matter expert for aluminum metallurgy, microstructural evaluation, and heat treatment protocols.
• Direct NDT and destructive testing programs to guarantee product integrity and adherence to aerospace, automotive, or industrial specs.
• Lead RCFA for casting defects and implement robust corrective actions.
• Partner with product design teams to develop new aluminum alloys and evaluate emerging casting technologies.
• Mentor junior engineers, metallurgists and lab technicians on foundry metallurgy best practices.
• Verify raw material suppliers and assist purchasing in supplier qualification and ongoing rating.
