Job summary

Contract Industrial Tooling (C-I-T) in Richmond, Indiana, is seeking an experienced welder to join our team. You will configure and run aluminum GMAW (MIG) equipment to meet drawing, fixture, and WPS requirements, fabricating aluminum components in multiple positions with strict quality control.

You will read fabrication drawings and weld symbols, manage heat input to control distortion, and perform precision inspections using calipers, squares, and gauges.

Qualifications

• Aluminum MIG experience is helpful; we can train the right motivated candidate.
• AWS D1.2 experience preferred.
• Ability to pass company weld tests.
• Aluminum fabrication background is a plus.
• Familiarity with fixtures, jigs, precision assemblies, and blueprint reading/symbols is advantageous.

Responsibilities

• Configure and run aluminum GMAW (MIG) equipment to meet drawing, fixture, and WPS requirements.
• Fabricate and weld aluminum components in flat, horizontal, vertical, and overhead positions.
• Interpret blueprints, weld symbols, fabrication drawings, and work instructions with precision.
• Fit, align, clamp, and tack parts; manage heat input for distortion control and superior appearance/penetration.
• Prepare materials by cleaning and grinding; finish parts after welding to meet cosmetic and dimensional targets.
• Measure and verify tolerances using calipers, squares, tape measures, fixtures, and gauges.
• Inspect completed weldments to confirm compliance with quality standards and document results.
• Maintain welding tools/equipment and promptly report any issues with tooling or fixtures.
• Champion safety, quality, and housekeeping throughout each shift.

You arrive to a clean, organized fab bay. The weld procedure spec is queued up, fixtures are staged, and today’s build list is heavy on tight-tolerance aluminum assemblies. You review the blueprint, confirm fit-up, and set your GMAW parameters for flawless arc starts and smooth bead profiles. By mid-morning you’ve tacked, welded in multiple positions, verified dimensions with gauges and calipers, and documented quality checks—then pivot to process improvements and equipment care before the next run.

What You Bring

• Hands-on experience welding aluminum with MIG (GMAW), producing clean, consistent beads on thin and thick material.
• Strong understanding of heat control, fit-up strategy, and distortion management.
• Ability to read fabrication drawings and weld symbols accurately.
• Proficiency with fabrication/inspection tools (calipers, squares, measuring devices).
• Detail-oriented craftsmanship, with the ability to work both independently and in a team setting.

Work Environment & Safety
