A day in the life

You clock in, review the day’s prints, and set up your GTAW (TIG) workstation. You’ll prep aluminum stock, check fixtures, and perform test beads to dial in heat input. From there, it’s all about controlled, repeatable welds—moving from flat work to vertical and overhead, aligning and tacking precisely, then finishing with clean, consistent beads that meet WPS and drawing requirements. Between welds, you’ll confirm dimensions with calipers, squares, tapes, gauges, and fixtures to keep assemblies square and true. You’ll document your work, inspect every weldment against quality criteria, and keep your equipment maintained and the area spotless—safety, quality, and housekeeping are non‑negotiables.

Core responsibilities
  • Set up and run aluminum TIG (GTAW) equipment for production and custom builds.
  • Weld components to drawings, fixtures, and WPS with an emphasis on repeatability.
  • Work in flat, horizontal, vertical, and overhead positions as needed.
  • Interpret blueprints, weld symbols, work instructions, and fabrication drawings accurately.

  • Maintain high standards for appearance, penetration, distortion control, and dimensional accuracy.
  • Inspect finished weldments to confirm compliance with quality requirements.
  • Record production activities and in‑process quality checks.
  • Perform routine equipment care and report tooling or equipment issues promptly.
  • Adhere to all safety, quality, and housekeeping practices at all times.

  • Meticulous attention to detail and craftsmanship.
  • Comfort working independently and collaborating within a team.
  • Growth mindset with a willingness to continuously improve.
Qualifications
  • Aluminum TIG experience is beneficial; we will train the right candidate.
  • AWS D1.2 experience preferred.
  • Able to pass company welding tests.
  • Background in aluminum fabrication is a plus, not a requirement.
