Job Description

TITLE: Alternative Classroom Instructional Aide

PAY GRADE 7: $16.05 to 17.15hourly (based on education and experience)

DAILY HOURS: 6.5hours per day

REPORTS TO: Building Principal

SUMMARY: Assists the Teacher with themonitoring of students who have been assigned to Alternative Instruction Classroom and provides counsel and guidance in constructive decision making by performing the following duties.

QUALIFICATIONS: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.

• Education and/or Experience: Associate's degree, two (2) years college credit or successful completion of ParaPro Assessment Test or experience equal to 1,000 hours in a prior year in a classroom instructional aide position.
• Mathematical Skills: Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume. Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry.
• Demonstrated experience in working with school aged children, parents and faculty.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Assists students, individually or in small goups, with lesson assignments to reinforce learning concepts.
• Establishes and maintains effective relationships with teachers, staff and students.
• Discusses assigned teaching area with classroom teacher to coordinate instructional efforts.
• Keeps students focused on tasks and reports any problems or concerns to the teacher.
• Works with and assistant Teachers in utilizing academic materials to meet individual student needs.
• Supervises and monitors students who have been assigned to Alternative Classroom for misbehavior.
• Collects assignments for Teachers for students in Alternative Classroom.
• Monitors students to/from non-academic activities or out-of classroom instruction (lunch, P.E. art).
• Assists students with and/or performs personal hygiene tasks (dressing, feeding, toilet, diapers) as applicable.
• Assists in the collection and organization of instructional materials.
• May counsels students; assists them in addressing their behavioral and emotional problems.
• Performs other related duties as assigned by thePrincipal and/or other designee.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES: This job has no supervisory responsibilities.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to sit and reach with hands and arms. The employee is occasionally required to stand, walk, stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 40 pounds.

The employee shall remain free of any alcohol or nonprescribed controlled substance abuse in the workplace throughout his/her employment in the Corporation.
