Memspa is seeking a part-time Robotics Coach in Michigan to oversee the FRC team at the Alternative Educational Academy of Iosco County. You will manage team operations, student recruitment, and the technical workflow, coordinating with FIRST Inspires to combine STEM exploration with youth mentorship.

Ideal candidates bring robotics experience or a STEM/education background, and are able to clear district background checks and FIRST YPP guidelines.

Purpose of Position: The Robotics Coach oversees all team operations, student recruitment, and technical workflows for the FRC team at the Alternative Educational Academy of Iosco County. This individual serves as the foundational technical guide and administrative liaison to FIRST Inspires, combining STEM exploration with youth mentorship to foster student resilience, collaboration, and skill-building.

Qualifications

• Background: Proven experience in a technical space (STEM, manufacturing, IT) or an educational background.
• Robotics Experience: Prior knowledge of FRC rules, manufacturing tool safety, or software architecture is strongly preferred.
• Clearances: Ability to clear district-level background checks alongside the mandatory FIRST Youth Protection Program (YPP) guidelines.
• Stipend Terms: Contracted at a $3,000.00 stipend per season, requiring evening/weekend hours during peak build months.

Duties and Responsibilities

• Team Administration: Execute team registration, student roster clearance, safety logs, and tournament event logistics. Minimum of 2 FRC team events required per year.
• Student Mentorship: Teach hands-on mechanics, electronics, and coding using a "hands-off" coaching philosophy where students build the robot.
• Season Planning: Lead the build pipeline during the high-intensity season from January through March while coordinating off-season prep.
• Student Advocacy: Maintain an encouraging workspace custom-tailored to alternative education populations, fostering teamwork and professional accountability.
• Budget & Logistics: Manage program needs, tool inventory, purchasing tracking, and safety compliance.
• Volunteer Coordination: Recruit, onboard, and manage adult mentors and non-technical support volunteers to ensure safe lab oversight and appropriate student-to-mentor ratios.
