Job summary

Jobtailor in Baltimore is seeking a Valuation Associate to independently review and update valuations for alternative assets, and to produce analytics for management reporting. You will collaborate with investment teams, validate statements, escalate pricing issues, and support the onboarding of large relationships, with a fast-paced, team-oriented environment.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in finance, accounting, or economics.
  • 1–3 years of experience required.
  • Solid proficiency in private equity, hedge funds, and real assets.
  • Strong Excel skills including macros and v-lookup.

Responsibilities

  • Independently review, research, assess and update valuations for alternative assets.
  • Produce custom business-segment and/or firm analytics for managerial reporting.
  • Partner with investment teams to create new alternative assets and ensure timely reporting.
  • Validate statements provided by fund companies for accuracy.
  • Engage custodians, funds, portfolio teams to resolve valuation issues.
  • Escalate fair value pricing matters and apply pricing policies.
  • Present support and documentation to resolve pricing discrepancies.
  • Manage queue of ticket requests in internal system and resolve tickets.
  • Use market knowledge to evaluate pricing data and update systems.
  • On-board large client relationships with complex holdings and advise actions.
  • Manage transfer of investments and execution of subscriptions/redemptions.
  • Identify control gaps and propose best practices/tools for efficiency.
  • Lead and contribute to firm-wide value-add projects and present findings.

Job description

  • Independently review, research, assess and update valuations for alternative assets
  • Produce custom business-segment and/or firm analytics for managerial reporting on a regular or ad-hoc basis
  • Partner with investment teams to create new alternative assets, to ensure timely and accurate reporting
  • Validate alternative asset statements provided by fund companies to ensure accuracy.
  • Engage custodians, funds, internal portfolio management, client service and operational teams to resolve valuation issues, breaks, delays and other related matters.
  • Escalate fair value pricing matters where valuations might be incorrect, and utilize judgement to determine resolution against pricing policies and guidelines.
  • Present factual support and documentation in order to resolve pricing discrepancies with necessary stakeholders.
  • Manage queue of ticket requests within internal task management system and work with team members to align task flow and independently resolve tickets as needed.
  • Leverage financial and market knowledge to evaluate various pricing data points to determine appropriate action, execute updates to systems and provide data to support the recommended course of action.
  • Partner with client teams when on-boarding large relationships with complex alternative asset holdings and recommend proper courses of action.
  • Manage the internal and external transfer of these investments, as well as execution of subscription and redemption activities
  • Proactively identifying and escalating control gaps and proposing and instituting best practices and tools to be more efficient and effective.
  • Lead and contribute to firm-wide and departmental value-add projects and present project findings to leadership and other stakeholders as needed.
Requirements
  • Bachelor’s degree required; finance, accounting, or economics concentration preferred.
  • 1-3 years of experience required.
  • The ideal candidate will demonstrate a solid proficiency and understanding of private equity and hedge fund securities, real assets, and possess general knowledge of market mechanics.
  • Demonstrated experience with and knowledge of Microsoft Excel, specifically macros and v-lookup functionality.
  • Demonstrated analytical, evaluative, and critical thinking skills.
  • Strong level of attention to detail, proven ability to work under pressure with multiple priorities, and a sense of urgency is required.
  • Must have the ability to work effectively and efficiently in a very fast-paced, team environment.
  • Strong decision making, organization, and communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • A client-first mentality, demonstrated flexibility, and strong communication skills.
  • Strong time-management, problem-resolution and research skills.
  • Experience with eFront, Advent, Axys/APX, or similar accounting product experience preferred.
  • Ability to meet tight deadlines in a quick and efficient manner and escalat[e] expeditiously as necessary.
  • Ability to work in our Baltimore office five days a week.
